Hello and welcome to the Friday UnRecipe post for paid subscribers, another edition of color stories! On Tuesday, I’ll be sharing the penultimate post in this series, which features wild combinations of shadows and light. As always, thanks for being here! You can learn more about me and my work at my portfolio.
Blues are not a color I frequently seek out in my work. After all, it’s not a color that is naturally found in many foods and food groups. When I’m shooting landscapes or travel photography, I love getting to play in this world of cool color. It opens up a different part of my brain to edit the startling clarity of blue, especially against yellows, oranges, and reds that are more familiar to me.
These photos aren’t related to each other in many ways, but I started thinking about this collection as “Gadgets and Gizmos Near the Sea and Far Away.” Something about the wide expanses of blue water and the steely glint coming off of the bikes, the mishmash of metallics at the market, and the street signs felt like they were meant to be seen together, making up an almost cinematic set about a sea creature that ventures too far away from her home.
Now you know my secret and how fast my imagination can get carried away when I’m sorting through and editing the thousands of photos I snap during my travels. What story do you see in these photos? Let me know below!
