Welcome to the Tuesday post for all subscribers, a short but sweet invitation to a retreat I’m hosting. On Friday, all subscribers will receive a recipe for upside down peach cake. As always, thank you for being here. You can learn more about me and my work at my website.
Today’s post is a short and sweet one. I’m here today to invite you to an event that I feel crazy to even be able to talk about: a weekend-long art and baking retreat that I’m co-hosting with one of my heroes and birthday twin
.Long ago, I ate a dessert that changed my life. I did some digging and found that the pastry chef behind this dessert was Emily Spurlin. I followed her on Instagram, sent her a creepy message telling her how much I loved her work, and continued to obsessively stalk her online. Fast forward a few years, a pandemic, and career pivots for the both of us, and I’m happy to report that Emily and I are now friends and collaborators IRL.
Emily is someone who inspires me all the time—with her passion, her flavors, and her ability to patiently explain how to frost a cake to someone like me who has no patience. When she approached me about teaming up to host a retreat this summer, I nearly fell over in my rush to accept.
Emily and I are honored to invite you to SUNBAKED: A Celebration of Seasonality in the Kitchen and the Studio. This retreat will take place over the course of a restorative and inspiring weekend (August 22-25) at Red Clover Ranch in the Driftless region of Wisconsin.
Our goal with this collaborative retreat is to focus on storytelling through food and photos. Every summer, Nature offers her bounty to us, and as creatives, we felt called to create a space to respond to that in the form of art, both the edible and the visual. We know you will be just as captivated as we are by the breathtaking natural beauty and agricultural abundance of this region.
We have lots of amazing things planned for this retreat, but we also left time for you to enjoy the Ranch, nourish yourself with the beautiful food that will be made for us by Chef Dani Lind, and recharge in whatever way you like.
To say that Emily and I are excited is an understatement. This is sure to be a magical weekend, and we’d love to have you attend! We’ve only opened up a limited number of spots to keep things intimate and lovely, and those spots have already started selling out. We’re offering early bird pricing from now until June 3, 2024, so jump on this now, my friends.
Any questions? Requests for future retreats closer to you? Reply to this email or drop a comment below. Otherwise, I’ll see you at SUNBAKED!
See you back here on Friday for upside down cake!
